What are Good Shutter shutters made from?

Solid Western Red Cedar. Cedar contains natural tannins and oils that repel rot, insects, and moisture without chemical pressure treatment, which is why it's the traditional choice for exterior wood shutters and siding. Nothing we sell is MDF, engineered wood, vinyl, or composite.

Are these operable or decorative?

Decorative. Our shutters mount flat to the siding on either side of the window and don't fold or close. If you need functional operable shutters, we're not the right fit; those are a separate category typically custom-built for each opening.

What sizes are available?

Eight height options: 36″, 42″, 48″, 54″, 60″, 66″, 72″, and 84″. Each panel is 14″ wide. Shutters ship in matched pairs (one left, one right).

What finishes do you offer?

We rotate through a range of stains and paints. The current color options are visible in the color selector on each product page. Unfinished is always available if you want to color-match your exact siding.

Ordering & Sizing

How do I measure for shutters?

Measure your window height (top of frame to bottom of frame) and round up to the closest of our standard heights. Traditional shutter width is roughly one-quarter to one-third the width of the window; our 14″ panels suit most standard residential windows. Two shutters (one pair) go per window.

Should I order all my shutters at once?

Yes, this is important. Because our shutters are finished from natural wood, ordering separate batches at different times can result in slight color and grain variation between them. If you're outfitting a whole house, order all needed pairs in a single order so they're finished from the same batch.

Do you offer custom sizes or colors?

For most orders, our standard sizes and finishes are what we stock. For contractor or new-construction orders with 20+ pairs, contact us and we'll see what's possible.

Shipping & Delivery

Where do you ship?

We ship throughout the continental United States.

How long does shipping take?

Ground shipments take 3 to 5 business days in transit. Larger orders may ship freight (5 to 10 business days, curbside delivery). You'll get tracking as soon as your order leaves our facility.

Is shipping free?

Free shipping is included on all shutter orders within the continental U.S.

Installation

How do I install exterior shutters?

Mounting is straightforward: attach the shutters directly to the siding on either side of the window frame using the included exterior hardware. Most homeowners can install a pair in 15 to 20 minutes with a drill and a level.

Will these work on brick or stucco?

Yes. You'll need masonry anchors instead of the wood screws we include. Any hardware store carries them.

Do I need to re-stain them over time?

Cedar holds finish longer than most exterior woods, but like any exterior wood product, plan to refresh the stain or paint every 1 to 3 years depending on sun and weather exposure in your climate.

Returns & Inspection

What if my shutters arrive damaged?

Inspect carefully upon arrival and report any damage within 30 days. We'll replace damaged shutters at no cost with photo documentation. Email us at info@goodshutter.com.

Can I return shutters after I've installed them?

No. Once shutters are mounted or installed, or if any stain, paint, or other alteration has been applied, they're considered used and cannot be returned or exchanged. This is why we ask you to inspect carefully before installing.

What if I just don't like them once they arrive?

Unused shutters in original condition can be returned within 30 days. Customer covers return shipping.
